HELPFUL ITEMS FOR LIVING OFF GRID
I have been asked numerous times where we got all the different things we use living way out here off grid in the mountains. I decided to compile a list with links for all our friends so they can find these items without having to spend hours and days trying to find suitable appliances and other things needed to live a comfortable life off grid (like we did).
In most cases, the things we use are no more expensive than the stuff you are using right now, and many of them are not as expensive.
Doulton Water Filter; this is the best unit at the most reasonable price we have been able to find. It requires no power and will filter thousands of gallons of water before it needs any service at all. You can get it here;Doulton SS Water Filter with 2 7″ Super Sterasyl Ceramic Filters
12 Volt Light Fixtures;12 volt light fixtures
Propane Refrigerators;Propane Refridgerator
Propane Freezers; Propane freezer
Power Inverter; One thing you need to know about power inverters is to make sure to get one that is bigger than you actually need and get the best one you can afford. There are cheap ones available that will work for a while then quit when you really need them. You can get a good one here;power inverter
Wind Generators; The wind generator I have is an Enlightened Sky EP 250. It does a great job of generating electricity when there is wind. It starts generating useable power at 10 to 12 mile per hour wind. It has withstood winds in excess of 60 MPH which blew the roof off my chicken house. Enlightened Sky Energy
Deep Cycle Batteries; your batteries are the backbone of your system. They are where the power is accumulated and stored until you need it. Car batteries will burn out quickly and have to be replaced often. Marine batteries will last longer than car batteries but are still not ideal. You need batteries that are designed for this purpose. Yes, they cost more to buy but will outlast other types many years. You can get some good ones here;deep cycle batteries
Complete Solar Starter System ; Panels, Charge Controller, Inverter. Wiring. Everything you need to get started.
45 Watt; 45W
Solar Backup Power and Lighting System
60 Watt; I have 2 of these units and they have served me well for more than 4 years. Sunforce 50048 60-Watt
Solar Charging Kit
Charge Controller; your charge controller keeps your system from overcharging your batteries thereby shortening their useful lives. Batteries are expensive so your charge controller is important. Get a good one here;Charge controller
You will notice that all these links go through Amazon. That is because Amazon is trustworthy and dependable. You may be able (with much research) to find a few items a little cheaper somewhere else. That’s OK if you want to do the research and take the chance of using a less reputable supplier. I use Amazon because they are ultimately dependable and of impeccable reputation. Also, my personal reputation is at stake here (since I recommend them) and that is important to me. Yes, I make a small commission if you buy through my links (4% I did say small ).
Here are some links to other useful items that we’ve used to make things go a little easier around our homestead;

Thank you for going through this list and thank you again if you decide to buy something through my links. I would like to point out that there is an Amazon search box on my website where you can buy anything that Amazon carries.
